My name is Hanna Bowen! I am 25 years old and I'm from Elma, New York. I love spending time with my dog and on the weekends you can find me cheering on the Buffalo Bills with my friends and family. I love to express myself in different ways and I plan to bring that creativity into the classroom! Bloom
Education should be a valuable and enriching experience for all students. Students should feel at home, respected and independent. While teachers wear many hats, their foremost responsibility is to be knowledgeable, comforting and gracious role models while also being tough, flexible and equitable educators. I identify closely with Abraham Maslow and his hierarchy of needs as well as Benjamin Bloom and his framework of Bloom's Taxonomy. Maslow suggests that before humans can do anything else, there are basic needs that need to be met. Bloom's Taxonomy is similar in that it is a hierarchical framework, but rather than relating to our personal lives, it is geared more towards our academic lives. Maslow's theory relates to Bloom's Taxonomy because "You need to Maslow before you Bloom." It is a goal of mine for each of my students to be eager to learn every day and to be excited to come to school and learn with me.
Practice with the "ing" brothers!
In this kindergarten lesson, we made word wheels. The students practiced saying the words and then picked a few words to use to make sentences!
Spaghetti Challenge
4th grade students were given 20 sticks of dry spaghetti, 1 yard of string, 1 yard of tape and 1 large marshmallow. Using those supplies, the students had to create a tower that would be strong enough to support a marshmallow without falling.
Parent Word Activity
In this 2nd grade activity, we took the "parent word" Leprechaun, and made a bunch of "baby words" out of it.
Other Projects
Counting to 100
Kindergarteners use different objects to count to 100. They could put the objects in groups of 5's, 10's or even make one big group!
Catching a Leprechaun
While long-term subbing in 2nd grade, my students expressed interest in trying to catch the leprechaun. I encouraged them to create a trap and loved seeing what they came up with!
Holiday Projects
I love to create art with my students for all the different holidays and Celebrations throughout the year. these projects create memories for both the students and families to look back on.
Classroom Management
As a classroom family, it is important that we maintain an environment that is safe, respectful and fun. With that being said, I believe it is important that students should have the opportunity to collaborate with me in coming up with the rules of our classroom. I like to incorporate engaging calling cues to get the attention of my students. For all grade levels, I focus on positive reinforcement and intrinsic motivation.
